Dump Truck Downs Utility Pole, Causing Closures, Power Outages In Sussex County: Police

The dump truck took down the pole and wires on Route 23 between High and Rapole Streets in Franklin Borough, local police said around 12:45 p.m.

Police had detoured northbound traffic to High Street/Rutherford Avenue while southbound traffic was diverted to Rapole Street/Mitchell Avenue.

The portion of roadway was expected to be closed for several hours as crews made repairs.

Meanwhile, nearly 800 customers within Franklin Borough were without power as of 1:45 p.m. with an estimated repair time of 4 p.m., according to JCP&L.

UPDATE: Route 23 was reopened around 3 p.m., police said.
